The Digital Innovation Unit at the General Administration of Information Technology organized a workshop titled “Design Thinking” on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Attended by members of the university community, the workshop was part of the Unit’s efforts to foster a culture of innovation, develop creative thinking skills, and promote solutions centered on beneficiaries’ needs.
The workshop introduced the concept of Design Thinking and its importance in innovation and problem-solving. It also explored the key stages of the methodology, beginning with empathizing with beneficiaries and understanding their needs, followed by defining the problem, generating ideas, developing prototypes, and ultimately testing and refining solutions.
The workshop included practical activities that enabled participants to apply Design Thinking tools to analyze challenges from the beneficiary’s perspective, reframe problems in ways that reveal new opportunities for innovation, and generate a range of initial ideas and solutions for further development and testing.
Key workshop outcomes included strengthening participants’ ability to gain deeper insight into beneficiaries’ needs, analyze and redefine problems, formulate challenge questions, generate and evaluate solutions, and transform promising ideas into prototypes that can be tested and refined. These skills support the transition from understanding a problem to designing practical, beneficiary-centered solutions.
The workshop forms part of the Digital Innovation Unit’s efforts to equip the Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University community with modern innovation methodologies and tools. It also supports the application of Design Thinking to service development, beneficiary experience enhancement, process efficiency, and the innovative resolution of university challenges, contributing to PSAU’s efforts to build an institutional environment that fosters innovation.
