Introduction:
In line with supporting the national aspirations and priorities for research, development, and innovation over the next two decades, as announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Research, Development, and Innovation, this program aims to support distinguished scientific publications in four national priority areas: human health, environmental sustainability and essential needs, leadership in energy and industry, and future economies. This program also seeks to expand the participation of university researchers in these fields and encourage their involvement in disciplines of national importance, raising the level of research output to meet global standards.
National Priorities in R&D and Innovation: The Kingdom has identified four national priorities:
- Human Health: Leveraging advanced healthcare infrastructure to address chronic and non-communicable diseases, improve healthcare standards, and introduce cutting-edge biopharmaceutical technologies.
- Environmental Sustainability and Essential Needs: Focusing on water desalination, sustainable food production, carbon capture, and clean energy technologies to position the Kingdom as a global leader in environmental preservation.
- Leadership in Energy and Industry: Innovating in alternative energy sources, such as green hydrogen and renewable energies, while maintaining a competitive edge in oil and sustainable industrial advancements.
- Future Economies: Developing digital innovations, smart cities, and enhancing the Kingdom’s presence in sectors like space exploration and marine research, securing a prosperous future for generations to come.
Duration:
- One calendar year.
Funding Amount:
- Up to 30,000 SAR per published scientific paper. The total funding depends on the proposal’s quality, the project's goals, and the expected outcomes, as well as available budgets and the number of eligible applications.
Conditions and Regulations:
- The principal investigator must be a faculty member at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University.
- The research must align with the national priority areas for research.
- The proposal, or any part of it, must not have been previously published or funded by any entity, either inside or outside the university.
- The principal investigator must be the first or corresponding author for all project outputs.
- All researchers involved must have their primary affiliation listed as Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University.
- All publications resulting from the project must acknowledge Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University as the sole funder.
- The research must be published in a journal classified within the first or second quartile (Q1 or Q2) in the Web of Science or Scopus databases. Higher weight will be given to publications in Q1 journals and research where 50% or more of the authors are affiliated with the university.
