Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU) is one of the newer universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was founded by a royal decree in 1430 AH (2009), which transformed King Saud University’s branch in Al-Kharj into an independent institution, initially named Al-Kharj University. The decree also brought together all the colleges in Al-Kharj, Al-Dilam, Wadi Al-Dawasir, Hotat Bani Tamim, Al-Aflaj, and Al-Sulayyil under the new university.
This step was taken as part of the Saudi government’s commitment, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to supporting education in general and higher education in particular.
Subsequently, the university's name was changed twice:
- A royal decree renamed it Salman bin Abdulaziz University on 23rd Shawwal 1432 AH (September 1, 2011).
- On 10th Jumada I 1436 AH (March 1, 2015), King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued an order to rename the university as Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University.
PSAU serves the southern governorates of Riyadh, spanning from Al-Kharj to Wadi Al-Dawasir. Its main campus is located in Al-Kharj, while branches are distributed across Wadi Al-Dawasir (567 km away), Al-Sulayyil (478 km), Al-Aflaj (237 km), Hotat Bani Tamim (120 km), and Al-Dilam (30 km).
The university aims to achieve its goals of preparing and developing national human resources, providing qualified and trained professionals to meet labor market needs and developmental requirements, and advancing scientific research and graduate studies to address societal issues.
As one of the geographically largest universities in Saudi Arabia, PSAU has numerous colleges spread across various governorates, including Al-Kharj, Al-Dilam, Hotat Bani Tamim, Al-Aflaj, Al-Sulayyil, and Wadi Al-Dawasir.
