Under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Talhi, the College of Education, represented by the Department of Arabic Language and its Literature at the university, organized a poetry gathering titled "Arabic Language: Language of Arts and Poetry." The event took place on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the stage of the College of Applied Medical Sciences at the university, coinciding with World Arabic Language Day.
The gathering featured a presentation of a selection of poems that highlighted the beauty of the Arabic language and its significance in Arabic literature and poetry. The poets who participated included Mr. Fahd Al-Ouboudi, Prof. Jamal Al-Hamdah, and Prof. Nasser Al-Shihaan.
Accompanying the poetry gathering was an exhibition of Arabic calligraphy and manuscripts, showcasing a collection of magnificent artistic works that exemplify the beauty and creativity of Arabic calligraphy. The exhibition was held in the college's lobby.
The event witnessed a significant turnout from university staff, students, and the local community, who expressed their admiration for the high level of artistic and creative performance presented by the poets and calligraphers.
This activity is part of the university's celebrations for World Arabic Language Day, aiming to enhance the status of the Arabic language in the academic and local community, showcase the beauty of Arabic calligraphy and creativity, and encourage youth interest in the Arabic language.
It's worth noting that the Arabic language is one of the oldest languages globally, the language of the Quran, and the official language in many Arab countries. The United Nations celebrates World Arabic Language Day annually to emphasize the importance of the Arabic language and promote its use in various fields.
