Dr. Abdu Rahman Al Asimi Rector of PSAU inaugurated the first book fair of the university. The fair was organized by Deanship Libraries in cooperation with Zahra of Knowledge Library for Publication. It was launched in conjunction with International Day of Book and Author Rights. The fair will last for eight in the University City at Al Kharj and it will witness cultural and intellectual events.
The fair includes more than 40 pavilions for local publication houses that are concerned in books, culture, and knowledge. Also, it includes a number of governmental and charity entities. Besides the university members, it targets the university’s outside community.
Moreover, Dr. Al Asimi delivered a speech welcoming the attendance of the fair. He pointed out to the importance of the knowledge and the university role in spreading it. Then, he welcomed the participants of the fair (publication houses and university members).
Furthermore, Dr. Abdul Al Aziz Hammed Vice-Rector of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, head of Executive Committee of Fair made a statement saying that the university is keen to practice its role in serving the community and spreading knowledge. The inauguration of this fair is one big step toward serving the community. He added that the gallery would give an exceptional chance to the entire family for intellectual tourism. In addition, he invited all local community families to attend the fair get the benefits of this event.
In addition, Dr. Rashid Arrshoud Dean of Libraries Affairs delivered a speech clarifying that the universities are practicing three roles, which are education, scientific research, and community service. Therefore, the deanship is accomplishing these three roles. He concluded, the deanship achievements were accomplished through the huge support of the university’s officials, especially Rector and hi Vices, besides the cooperation of the Deans and Faculty Members.
Deanship of Libraries Affairs Achievements:
- The university’s libraries contain almost 200,000 books.
- The university has 24 branch libraries.
- The university is a participant of the Saudi Library. It achieved the second place in among the Saudi universities in the e-portal usage of the library to the years 2014 and 2015.
- The Deanship of Libraries Affairs has transformed all the paperwork of books borrowing into e-services. The library contains 17 self-borrowing devices. It provides scanning services that send the scanned documents to the beneficiary’s e-mail directly.
- The Deanship provides dozens of training courses about the Saudi Library usage for the faculties and to the students. It provided more than 65 training course this year.
- The book fair is the head of the deanship’s achievements.
Dr. Arrshoud concluded his speech by expressing his thanks to Rector and Dr. Hammed for their support and eagerness to deliver the fair in a bright way. Also, he thanked participants of the fair and Dr. Essa Addowsari Director of Public Relation and Media. Besides that, he appreciated the role and cooperation Zahra Library.
Later on, Mr. Ashraf Mahmoud delivered a speech that the Zahra Library is honored to collaborate with the university in this fair. He assured that Zahra Library is able to insure the success of this fair. Then, he expressed his appreciation to Rector, Dr. Hammed, and Dr. Arrshoud. In addition, he thanked Dr. Addowsari for his efforts and time.
