A scientific team from SAU has discover a new safe remedy for stomach ulcer, along with the causing stomach ulcer bacteria known as clinically isolated Helicobacter Pylori. The team was headed by Dr. Amani Awad Vice-Dean of Pharmacology, Professor in Department of Pharmacognosy and aided by Dr. Ahmad Afifi Head of Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Dr. Reham Miligy Pharmaceutical Professor Assistant in King Saudi University.
The effect of the discovered compound on the experimental animals depends on the given dosage concentration. The prevention ratio of gastric ulcers on a dosage mounted 100mg/kg is 66.7%. The effect of the discovered was compared with existed medicine in the market and found better when used at the same dosage amount. The compound also showed a strong influence as antidote for clinically isolated Helicobacter Pylori. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for this bacterium reached 12.5-50 ug / ml. in addition, it showed no toxic effect on experimental animals and it showed no side effect on the kidney and liver functions.
It is worth mentioning, the compound is mixture between synthetic compound (Sulfonamide) and natural compound (Amino acid Leucine).
