Under the patronage of the university president, Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Talhi, the Student Affairs Deanship held the First Counseling and Guidance Symposium titled "University Counseling and Its Effective Services" on Wednesday, 19/3/1445 AH, at the auditorium of the College of Computer Science and Engineering for female students in Al-Kharj.
The symposium opened with the recitation of verses from the Quran, followed by a speech by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Issa Al-Dosari. He welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of this symposium. He explained that through the Student Affairs Deanship, the university provides a wide range of programs and services that support the educational process. Among these, counseling and guidance are essential for the university to fulfill its responsibilities towards its male and female students. It helps them make the right choices, make wise decisions, overcome difficulties, find solutions to their challenges, and guide them toward achieving their goals.
This was followed by an introductory speech by the Head of the Counseling and Guidance Unit at the Deanship, Ms. Reema Al-Dosari. She explained the unit's plans for the current academic year. She discussed some initiatives and programs, including the "Friend the Counselor" initiative, the e-psychosocial clinic, and the mental health promotion campaign.
The attendees then watched a visual presentation on the launch of the 1445 AH counseling year and its development vision.
The symposium addressed several topics and included workshops and dialogues. The first topic was "University Counseling: Its Nature and Components and the Integrated Relationship between the Components of Academic Counseling." The second topic was "Counseling and the Fundamental Conditions in the Counseling Process." The third topic focused on "Counseling Interviews," while the fourth and final topic was "Academic Counseling."
The symposium concluded with several recommendations, including the importance of organizing training courses for counselors, providing tools to help them conduct counseling interviews, raising awareness about the significance of university counseling, and appointing specialized mental health counselors for each college in the university to address the needs of students and assist them in overcoming any challenges or obstacles they face.
