Under the patronage of Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Talhi the President of PSAU, the University in cooperation with Stanford University, organized the "Women in Data Science 2023" forum. The forum was held on 12/22023 and witnessed the presence of the university's women leaders and students, which lasts for two days at the university's main theater in Al-Kharj.
During the opening of the forum, the attendees watched a presentation talking about women's initiatives in data science and the latest research and practices at the level of countries in the world and the Middle East, among the various disciplines related to this science. Dr. Bushra Al-Hammad the Vice-President of Female Student Affairs, delivered her speech, in which she noted the attention and care that Saudi women receive from the wise leadership, which contributed to strengthening their role in various fields and aspects of the comprehensive national development movement. Dr. Ilham Kariri the Vice Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science for females, presented a scientific presentation entitled Women’s Initiative in Data Science from the USA to KSA, in which she highlighted the importance of data science in decision-making. She discussed working on the global challenge for the year 2023 AD in climate change from the perspective of data science and confirmed that the university was determined to build an advanced environment to be a pioneer in encouraging advanced technology. The supervisor of student activities at the College of Engineering and Computer Science for the female section, Dr. Fatima Al-Masmoudi, presented an overview of women in data science at Prince Sattam University, which adopts the goals of Stanford University. She stressed the importance of building bridges of communication between the participants in the event, with different scientific or literary specializations, and even engineering. She also provided an introductory overview of the global challenge for the year 2023 in climate change and its requirements. In the end, she expressed her deep thanks and appreciation to the participants and the makers of the success of the forum.
The forum includes several dialogue sessions with the participation of a number of university faculty members and training workshops presented by a group of specialized experts on data science and its role in the life of contemporary women. The first day included holding two dialogue sessions entitled "Data Science in Education" and "The Role of Data Science" in Healthcare Developments”, through which the attendees were briefed on the latest research and applications related to data science in a number of fields, and provided them with relevant ideas.
It is worth mentioning that the forum aims to enhance women’s culture in the field of technology and data science, confirm their professional participation in this field, exchange ideas, encourage cooperation between participants in various disciplines, and link regional researchers and practitioners with leading global networks in the field of data science to contribute to achieving the Kingdom’s vision 2030 by strengthening the strength of Women work in this field, in addition to making the university a strategic partner alongside universities and well-established agencies locally and globally, and supporting new beginners in data science.
