PSAU congratulated its students who emerged victorious in the "Big Tanween Mega Challenge: Designing Solutions for Refugees," organized by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran from November 1 to 4, 2023. The challenge featured participation from experts and innovators worldwide through three tracks that required innovative solutions to improve the quality of life for refugees globally, namely education, food security, and energy.
In the food security track, student Thamer Al-Qahtani won with his project "Croptimizer." The project aims to enhance crop productivity and reduce farming costs through an innovative system that can determine the suitable type and quantity of fertilizer based on the plant's needs, at a lower cost using artificial intelligence techniques. As for the sustainable solutions category winners, students Shorouq Mohammed, Rand Al-Baj, Faisal Al-Thneian, and Osama Al-Mughira designed the "Solar Box." This solar cooker utilizes solar energy and sunlight to cook food in a convenient and cost-effective, aiming to improve living conditions in refugee camps by providing a safe and sustainable means.
PSAU expressed pride and joy in the achievements of its students in this challenge, emphasizing that it reflects their excellence and ability to provide innovative solutions to societal challenges. The university reiterated that its support for talented students aims to prepare them to be effective societal contributors and problem solvers.
