As part of the activities of the National Open Education Resource Program, Rector Abdul Aziz Al-Hammed participated in the official launch of the "Shams" Open Learning Resource Platform. It was developed by the National Center for e-Learning with the support of a number of Saudi Universities. Its educational resources 80 thousand resources.
The inauguration was in the presence of His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Assami, Dr. Abdullah Al-Muqrin, Director General of the National Center for e-Learning and a number of the Saudi universities’ Rectors, membership platform "Shams" and education managers and their excellence in enriching.
The ceremony was also attended by the Dean of Information Technology and Distance Learning, Dr. Abdullah Al-Bahdel, and his Vice of Distance Learning Dr. Adel Basis.
The celebration also witnessed the launch of the fifth edition of the e-learning Excellence Awards; in addition to honoring the universities and faculty members who are most involved in the development of digital content and enriching the national platform.
A series of workshops were held in conjunction with the launching of the Shams platform. The workshops discussed the national strategy of OER and its regulations for two consecutive days with the participation of deans, e-learning agencies and education departments in the Kingdom. The Shams platform serves as a platform and repository that includes the resources, e-courses, and resources of education that Saudi universities contribute. Students and faculty from other universities can access them from within the e-learning management system (Blackboard). The content on this platform includes five types of licenses Allowing the reuse of content and even re-production or quote in teaching and learning. Through the Deanship of Information Technology and Distance Education, the University has contributed the resources of e-learning training to be available to the rest of the Saudi universities by raising (496) educational resources The university is also part of the National Transition 2020 initiative, which is an ambitious initiative to develop open educational resources within a specialized center for the development of the digital content of the university's academic programs. The university, in partnership with the National Center for e-learning, implements a number of programs and training courses within the series "Shams" training bags, in cooperation with trainers who have been qualified as members and trainers accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and the National Center for e-Learning.
At the conclusion of the celebration, the university was honored. The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Assami, presented a commemorative shield to Prof. Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al-Hamed in appreciation of the University and its contributions to the establishment of Shams platform. They contributed to raising their educational resources and disseminating them on the platform and distinguished at the level of Saudi universities in terms of the contribution and the quality of the resources. They are Dr. Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al-Shathri from the Faculty of Science and Humanities at Hawatah Bani Tamim, Department of Islamic Studies, and the lecture by Nada Al-Zahrani from the College of Computer Science.
