Dr. Muna Addowsari has represented SAU in the 11the Arab Congress of Plant Protection, which was organized by the Arab Society for Plant Protection and Technological Agriculture College in Balqa University in Jordan.
The conference that held during the period 9-13/11/2014, included on a number of pioneer scientists, researchers and speakers. It also covered many scientific majors, which are Economic Entomology, Viral Diseases, Nematodes, Fungal Diseases, Weeds, Plant Extracts, Rodents, Birds and Snails, besides Biological Control of Pests. In addition, the speakers were from Australia, Holland, Germany, Italy, France, Iraq, Saudi, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan and Morocco, along with the Mediterranean European Organization for Plants Protection.
Dr. Addowsari’s study focused on the effect of Leucokinin II on each of the proteins and total fat in haemolymph of insects, besides analyzing changes happened by Leucokinin II. A full insect (Red Palm Weevil) were obtained from SAU’s educational weevils lab, where it was bred palms.
The study concluded, the Leucokinin II has significant effect in increasing Total Proteins in the haemolymph of male insects to 0.05% and 0.25% concentration, while Total Proteins was increased in female insects to 4.846 on 0.05% concentration. However, Leucokinin II effect on the cholesterol concentration in haemolymph was obvious on 0.05% concentration for both sexes comparing to the control group.
Furthermore, Dr. Addowsari was honored by receiving the award of the best research in palm researches from the Iraqi Network of Date Palms. The research was titled “Qualitative changes in protein and cholesterol in haemolymph of red palm weevil after LeucokininII treatment”.
